The Problem
Ethnic minority youth in Hong Kong face a unique set of challenges that can deeply affect their mental health. They navigate academic pressures, grapple with learning Cantonese, and endure the harsh realities of bullying and discrimination. Through our direct services, we have observed that many youths carry the heavy burden of caring for siblings while grappling with uncertainties about their educational and career paths. It’s heartbreaking to see them struggle with limited resources and experience, often feeling isolated in their battles. Yet, despite these overwhelming challenges, these young individuals demonstrate resilience. Their proactive spirit and desire to uplift their communities often go unnoticed. Our project is to empower them not just to overcome these hardships but also to motivate them to become positive influences in their communities by promoting mental health awareness and understanding.
Our Work
We are dedicated to training ethnic minority youth to become Youth Mental Health Ambassadors. Through comprehensive Mental Health First Aid Training, participants will acquire essential skills and knowledge about mental well-being. This training will encompass:
- Basic Meditation and Self-Care Techniques: Practical strategies designed to enhance personal well-being and equip them with tools for managing stress.
- Critical Mental Health Topics: In-depth insights into available mental health resources in Hong Kong, along with efforts to debunk myths and stigma surrounding mental health, while fostering cultural sensitivity in discussions.
Upon completing the training, these ambassadors will lead the Mental Health Awareness Activities, with support from The Zubin Foundation’s team.
Together, they will:
- Conduct Workshops: Ambassadors and our team will facilitate engaging workshops that equip participants with knowledge on stress management, self-care practices, and resilience-building strategies, creating an interactive learning environment.
- Host Fun Fairs: These interactive events will feature games, art therapy, mindfulness exercises, and relaxation techniques, fostering an enjoyable atmosphere for promoting mental wellness and community engagement.
Join us in nurturing a generation of empowered Youth Mental Health Ambassadors who are ready to make meaningful contributions to their communities. Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health and inspire positive change that resonates throughout Hong Kong!

My journey as a Youth Mental Health Ambassador has been transformative. When I first joined the project, I was struggling with career planning and my mental health. Attending the training not only helped me regain my confidence but also allowed me to contribute to my community. Over the past three months, I've organised a fun fair booth and conducted educational talks, which has ignited my passion for mental health. Now, I’m actively pursuing a career in social services, inspired to make a difference. This project has truly empowered me to turn my education into a lifelong mission.
