The Problem

Quite a number of ethnic minority (EM) women in Hong Kong are upholding overwhelming family responsibilities, which often contribute to their distress. While exploring the local community and building social networks are essential for their well-being, they often hesitate to engage because of different personal, family and cultural reasons. Furthermore, limited access to resources hinders their ability to upskill, fostering self-doubt and impeding their personal growth.

Our Work

The weekly Chai Gathering provides a platform for EM women to build meaningful social networks and learn new skills. Tailored to encourage them to step out of their homes, Chai Gathering offers a wide range of activities. From learning basic Cantonese, to making traditional Chinese snacks and physical well-being sessions, they are exposed to new experiences. Through these recreational and interest-based activities, the EM women can foster a sense of inclusion between their community and local cultures.
