The Problem

Through The Zubin Foundation’s direct outreach work, we realise that ethnic minority children from low-income families have limited access to quality education as well as learning resources.  We also find that it may be difficult for parents to support their children’s studies because of parents’ long work hours, an unfamiliar education system, and their own academic background, etc. For some EM children, neither Chinese nor English is their first or second language, making it hard for them to catch up with the curriculum in Hong Kong. Due to lack of understanding caused by the language barrier, some EM children are losing their motivation to learn.

Our Work

To arouse EM children’s interest in learning Chinese and English, and therefore enhance their language proficiency, The Zubin Foundation is holding regular storytelling sessions in both Chinese and English for EM children.

Through bilingual storytelling as well as interactive exercise with the children, we are helping to solidify what they have learnt.  The children will be able to boost their listening skills and stimulate their curiosity in learning the languages.
